Since the beginning of recorded history humanity has dreamt about flight. The earliest flying toy originated in China around 320 A.D. and was one of the earliest helicopter concepts, with a propeller attached to a stick that achieved flight after being spun rapidly with the hands. Leonardo da Vinci (1452–1519), the Italian artist, engineer, and philosopher had a particular fascination with human mechanical flight and most of his ideas drew inspiration from nature.
